TFC Recycling would like to thank you for your support of the Suffolk Curbside Recycling Program and give you a brief update.
We are currently testing our new online bill pay system. Once we have worked out the kinks in the program we will be ready to begin receiving your commitment to the recycling program. We are working with our programmers to ensure a seamless experience for you when we launch the program.
Once our online bill pay system has launched, you will receive a link to our service agreement, which will allow you to place your bin on order. This form will be our terms of agreement. At this point you will be asked for your contact and billing information. Within 7-10 days, you will receive an invoice via mail for you to pay your bill online or send payment with your invoice to us. After we have received your payment, we will deliver your recycling bin to you the latter half of June. Service is expected to begin in July.
Program Details:
*The program costs $12 a month or $36 a quarter.
*The program includes delivery of a 96-gallon big blue bin to your home, to be emptied every two weeks. Your pick up day will coincide with your regular trash day. You may recycle the following items in your big blue bin: plastic bottles #1 and #2, aluminum and steel cans, junk mail, magazines, catalogs, office paper, newspaper, cardboard and box board.
If you haven’t signed up or updates, you can do so at SIGN UP SUFFOLK.
We currently have approximately 2,100 residents signed up expressing their interest in Suffolk Curbside Recycling Program. The program is an optional program being offered by the City Of Suffolk through TFC Recycling. The program costs $12 a month and is designed to make recycling more convenient for residents who wish to have recycling available at their door step. For $12 a month, participating residents will receive a 96 gallon big blue bin delivered to their home. The big blue bin will be emptied once every two weeks by TFC. The blue bins allow you to recycle office paper, newspaper, magazines/catalogs, junk mail, soft back books, plastics #1 and #2, aluminum cans, steel cans, glass bottles, cardboard, cereal boxes, and phone books.
The next step to making curbside recycling a reality is to agree to our terms of service and submit your payment information. We are finalizing our new online bill pay system and as soon testing is complete we will be asking for your monetary commitment. If you have already signed up, we will be contacting you within the next couple of weeks with the terms of service, billing and delivery information.
Thank you for your patience as we work to bring this new program to you. Because we are still accepting sign ups, please continue to pass along this great opportunity to actively participate in reducing our impact on the planet. Feel free to send this link to those you think might be interested in the curbside program. We are continually monitoring and updating our Facebook page and you are invited to join the conversation and ask questions.
TFC Recycling employees are prepared to speak about the program at HOA meetings, civic meetings, garden club meetings, church socials and businesses. We can also arrange a sign-up day for organizations or large companies.
It has been interesting to watch over the past few weeks as the number of area homeowners and residents signing up for the voluntary recycle program has inched up ever higher.
What was once just 200 or so sign-ups has crept up to more than 2,000 and what was once a whispered about dream of some — that a recycle program would ever come back to Suffolk — is increasingly becoming a reality.
Although city officials and representatives with TFC Recycling set forth a lofty goal of 3,000 homes signed up by Earth Day (today), it is still remarkable to many that this program has come as far as it has.
In Suffolk, every home still receives weekly free trash pickup. TFC Recycling’s goal included signing up 3,000 residences that would pay $12 per month every other week for curbside recycling pickup. It is a credit to city leaders for agreeing to restart the program and to the efforts of TFC Recycling for educating the benefits of such a program.
A recycling company is looking for a few people willing to commit to paying $12 a month for recycling service in Suffolk.
TFC Recycling has almost reached its Earth Day goal of getting 3,000 households to sign up for “Big Bin” recycling.
The Chesapeake-based company will provide participants with a recycling container, similar to the trash containers the city provides.
Participants will be able to dump a wide variety of materials into the cans from cardboard and mixed paper to plastic and glass bottles. The materials will be picked up twice a month on trash day, according to a representative with the company.
Today is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, and this year TFC wants to not only celebrate our beautiful planet, but also our local community, which has been working so hard to keep it clean!
Yesterday a member of our team, LeAnne Benedetto said, “we were a green company before ‘green’ was even cool,” and though she just might be right, we’re really excited to see everyone catching on and pitching in to conserve our environment.
Virginia Beach and TFC with the award
The city of Virginia Beach, which was the first community to partner with TFC for curbside recycling, was recently recognized for their efforts by receiving the 2010 American Forest & Paper Association Community Recycling Award. Virginia Beach recycled close to 23,800 tons of paper and paper-based packaging in 2009, which was more than 68% of all recyclables collected.
The 2010 American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) Community Recycling Award was presented to the city of Virginia Beach in mid-April and the annual award recognizes outstanding community, business and school paper recycling programs across the country.
Congressman Glenn Nye said, “Families here in Virginia Beach understand how important it is to protect our environment through recycling, and we know that individual steps like recycling paper at our homes and businesses can have a huge impact. I’m proud that Virginia Beach has been able to set a strong example for the nation,” – and we’re obviously proud, too.
Chesapeake had a good green year as well, tripling their recycling volumes since February of 2009 after partnering with TFC. We collected 1,125 tons of recyclables from the Chesapeake recycle service big bin containers in February 2010, and according to city officials’ statistics, tonnage per month in February 2009 was only 308.
Today also actually marks a big day for Suffolk as the official announced deadline for the “Suffolk Sign-Up,” promoting the curb-side recycling program. We’ve had a great response and have even seen over 100 new sign-ups in the past few days, raising the numbers to nearly 2,000 households registered. Since it’ll take 2-3 weeks to evaluate the numbers, we still encourage residents interested to continue to sign-up – every signature helps!
TFC's last E-cycling event in Virginia Beach
Lastly, if you’re in York County, make sure you check out the annual Earth Day festivities going on at the Riverwalk on Yorktown Beach today from 10am-2pm. A TFC truck is down there right now, collecting electronics for the York County Electronics Recycling event. Bring any and all out of date electronics past the point of being reused (except televisions)!
Happy Earth Day, Hampton Roads, and keep up the great work!
Curbside recycling has almost returned to the city of Suffolk, but a local company is looking for a few more people to commit to paying $12 a month for curbside service.
TFC Recycling has almost reached its Earth Day deadline — April 22 — to get 3,000 households to sign up for recycling.
For a $12 fee each month, the Chesapeake-based company will provide participants with a recycling container similar to the trash containers the city provides most homes. Participants can dump a wide variety of materials into the cans, which then would be picked up twice a month on trash day.
