Be Like Carter
What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up?
When you were 5 years old, what did you want to be when you grew up? For some of us, the dream was to become a builder, a fireman or even a doctor. There probably aren't too many of us that would have chosen recycling. That isn't the case with our friend, Carter.
Carter's passion for recycling began around the age of two when he would sit at the end of his driveway and watch for the recycling truck. From that point on, Carter was hooked. His mother describes him as a "recycling junkie" and tells of how Carter would collect recyclables from neighbors to put in his recycling container.
Carter is so enthusiastic about recycling that he has created the 'Golden Triangle Award' for people who recycle. The greatest part about this story is the fact that Carter was only 5 years old! Once we learned about Carter's passion for recycling, a relationship was developed. Our President, Michael Benedetto, rolled out the "green" carpet for Carter and we invited his family to come tour our facility. Our VP of Production gave him and his father a tour of our processing plant and our Director of Fleet Operations, Hank Brown, called in all of the different TFC trucks for Carter to see.
It only seemed natural for Carter to choose a recycling theme for his 6th birthday party. Carter not only taught his family to be recyclers - but through his recycling themed party, he taught 17 friends as well.
There is not one person in our company that does not know who Carter is and when company events are planned, employees ask if Carter is coming. Carter has become our ambassador or recycling and is invited to all of our corporate events. Carter changed who we are as a company. Portraits of his visit line our hallways as a reminder that we not only serve businesses and municipalities, but we serve as stewards for a new generation of recyclers.
Do you know a kid who is like Carter? If so, contact email@example.com to tell us their story! We love recognizing those individuals who go above and beyond to encourage recycling. Whether you are 5 or 85, we want you to Be Like Carter!
